Leadership Coaching and Mentoring

Leadership coaching focuses on the leadership aspects of a career, often but not always within a certain organizational context.

Leadership coaching is a profession that assists individuals with their capacity to achieve both short- and long-term goals. It's a personalized, typically one-on-one process that occurs over a defined time period, usually with specific, articulated goals in mind.

The coaching process can give a leader a new perspective and focus. Coaching helps leaders implement personal and organizational change by providing support and keeping them focused on attaining their personal and professional goals.

Principles of Coaching (Jack Canfield):

  • The Coaching Spirit.

  • Relationship and Trust.

  • Asking Questions and Curiosity.

  • Listening and Intuition.

  • Feedback and Awareness.

  • Suggestions and Simplification.

  • Goals and Action Plans.

  • Accountability and Accomplishments.

Women In Higher Education
A Leadership Development Pipeline Initiative

Women In Higher Education (WIHE) offers programming that focuses on the identification, development, education, and advancement of women in preparation for leadership roles (including chairing committees, working with accreditation and program review, serving on the Faculty Senate as well as mid-level and senior level positions).  Program completers become a member of a growing pool of women at staff, faculty, and administrative levels who are ready when called upon to assume campus leadership roles.
This inaugural project was implemented at CSU, Sacramento.
